Discover charming, historic Feldkirch
If you’re visiting Feldkirch for the first time, prepare to be amazed as you explore the fascinating Old Town with its romantic pergolas and quaint little streets dating back several centuries. It’s the perfect backdrop for a magical city trip!
In the medieval Old Town, one of the most beautiful in the wider region, you can marvel at storied old buildings, charming fountains and historic Schattenburg castle. Further attractions include a wide range of shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars, plus a variety of walks leading to Feldkirch’s gloriously green surroundings, the Reichenfeld Quarter and the wildlife park.
As the city’s cultural quarter, Reichenfeld boasts a unique atmosphere and a whole host of eye-catching sights. Its park features a building complex comprising four structures: the Pförtnerhaus event centre, the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium academy where many artists have cut their teeth, Feldkirch Music School and the Altes Hallenbad cultural centre – which is also the site of the celebrated annual poolbar festival.
Late autumn is the ideal time to visit Feldkirch: stroll through the storied old streets, discover the hottest small shops and cafes, explore the Reichenfeld Quarter, marvel at the wildlife park and enjoy a sumptuous meal with a view at the rooftop restaurant in the Montforthaus.

Did you know?

The circular 8-storey Katzenturm was built between 1491 and 1507 as part of the city fortifications under Emperor Maximilian I. The origin of this unusual name, literally “cat tower”, has never been fully explained. One theory states that the cannons at this former defence tower were fitted with cats’ heads to assist with aiming.

06 Historic Schattenburg castle
Schattenburg castle looms over the city. Up to the late 14th century, it was the seat of the Dukes of Montfort. As the highest point of Schattenburg castle, the keep acts as a viewing platform that takes in all of Feldkirch. Castle enthusiasts will find Schattenburg particularly appealing: despite undergoing a number of expansions, it has been preserved virtually unchanged.
